Effective July 1st, 2015, drivers in Tennessee who do not have proper insurance will face a fine of $300, up from the previous $100 fine. Post-January 1, 2016 cops can have your vehicle towed immediately if you don’t have proof of insurance. From now until January 1, 2017, Tennessee will implement an online insurance verification program that will track down drivers who have not purchased valid insurance through their vehicle registration information. Owners without insurance will be unable to renew their vehicle’s registration.
